Local Solutions

What be done at the local level ?

The 287(g) Program: A Force Multiplier
 - a means by which state and local law enforcement agencies may enter into agreements so that officers may receive training from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to perform immigration enforcement functions. This training provides state and local police with additional tools they can use to prosecute crimes committed by aliens.

County and Town Ordinances - Since the summer of 2006, more than 100 local governments in 27 states have considered, and in some cases passed, ordinances to deal with the negative local impact of illegal aliens. Locally, Prince William and Loudoun Counties have added their names to this growing list.

Some examples include local ordinances which seek to:

  • Bar local government contracts with employers who hire illegal aliens;
  • Prohibit landlords from renting to illegal aliens or fine them for doing so; and
  • Prohibit business licenses for companies that hire illegal aliens.
  • Limit taxpayer funded benefits programs to lawful immigrants and US citizens
